My office is kinda bad at birthdays.
There’s no real consistency on who’s birthdays are celebrated and in what way. Some people get bagels, some people get a full staff party, some people get nothing.
Yesterday was my birthday and I figured there would be no official celebration.
About halfway through the day, a staff-wide email went out (from the coworker who shares my birthday) announcing that from here on out, we would celebrate birthday’s every two months for all the people who have birthdays during that time (a la that one episode of The Office).
September and October birthdays (about 10 people, or a fifth of the staff) would be celebrated the next day (today). And if you’re one of the celebrants and want to participate in the party, you should bring in a treat to share.
Which is how I ended up baking my own birthday cake last night.
